Fly fishing in particular has enjoyed tremendous popularity over many generations of fishermen. But because fly fishing differs so greatly from traditional fishing, there are a variety of decisions to make that are normally unnecessary. In this instance, a fly fishing guide can be most helpful in planning out your experience.

Fly fishing has existed in recorded history for nearly 2000 years and gets its name from the fisherman's use of artificial flies as bait. As opposed to traditional fishing where fishermen use organic bait - live or dead - as bait, fly fishermen use a variety of synthetic material as bait. The types of flies are chosen based on the type of fish that are trying to be attracted; once attached to the hook and line, the fly is cast out to the water using rhythmic movements that replicate the movements of an insect or something that to which the fish would be attracted. During dry fly fishing, the fly is made to "dance" above the water; in wet fly fishing, the fly is actually submerged in order to attract fish beneath the surface. Determining the type of fly fishing that will be done depends solely on the type of fish the fisherman is interested in catching and that is where a fly fishing guide can be most helpful.

Fly fishing is done in all parts of the country - and in the world. But not all times of the year are appropriate for fly fishing in these areas. A fly fishing guide acts as a travel guide of sorts, giving the fisherman inside information on the best spots for fly fishing and the best times of year to visit. This can be enormously helpful for the fisherman who is looking to experience a particular type of fly fishing.

Additionally, a fly fishing guide will provide information on accommodations, dining, transportation, and a host of other information necessary to plan the perfect trip. There are many resorts throughout the country that provide packages specifically for fly fishermen; a fly fishing guide can point out these particular packages and help you make the decision that will help you make the most from your trip.

Think of a fly fishing guide as the ultimate travel tool for fly fishing enthusiasts. You can find such a guide in bookstores anywhere and even in their electronic form online. Comprehensive and convenient, a fly fishing guide will allow you to plan your next adventure with excitement and ease.

About the Author

Visit the Healthy Face website to learn about staph infection on face and sores on face.

Visiting the Florida Everglades: Bass Fishing

Visiting the Florida Everglades: Bass Fishing by Donnell Chandler
in Sports (submitted 2010-01-20)

Most anglers agree that bass fishing in the Everglades is a unique and captivating experience. Many people visit this unique environment expecting the stereotypical swamplands of old black and white movies; what they find is one of the country's most extraordinary natural formations. Thousands of kinds of fish, dozens of endangered species and land forms unlike anywhere else in the United States can all be found in the Everglades. These surroundings also provide some of the best largemouth bass waters in the country; however, anyone who spends time bass fishing in the Everglades will discover more than just an angling adventure.

In a park that boasts more than one million acres of natural terrain and two thousand miles of canals along with a whole lot of alligators, the visiting fisher might be wise to take along a professional guide. Enlisting an experienced local for bass fishing in the Everglades can make the trip more enjoyable and productive as well as less tiring. In addition, employing a guide means a visitor to Florida doesn't have to personally purchase a state fishing license; he/she fishes under the auspices of the guide's licenses. A licensed guide will soon have a bass fisher just where he/she wants to be: Navigating the channels in search of the lushly vegetated flats where literally hundreds of hungry bass are looking for dinner.

Once on the water, even the novice fisher will find that casting a line generally results in hits not just from trophy size largemouth but from feisty peacock bass as well. Largemouth bass over fifteen inches long and weighing in at more than five pounds are not uncommon in Everglade waters. Anglers who like a good fight will get it from the largemouth's smaller but hard scrabble peacock cousin. Although the park strongly encourages catch and release an enthusiastic angler won't go home without a memento of the visit. Remember all a taxidermist needs to provide a conversation piece wall hanging are the dimensions of the fish and a good picture. Do the Everglades a favor, handle that bass with care and don't take more than a fair share.

Also beware of the extreme temperatures which can decrease the pleasure and lower the productivity of any bass fishing in the Everglades. Consider early morning and dusk fishing when the waters are cooler, more oxygenated and livelier. Be sure to dress for success: Light weight shorts, vented shirts, billed caps, polarized sunglasses and lots of sunscreen are de rigueur.

All in all, for the fisher looking for a one of a kind trip, bass fishing in the Everglades may be just the ticket. So, get in touch with a guide, pack up the gear, don't forget the sunglasses and head out today for one of the nation's true natural wonderlands: The Florida Everglades.

About the Author

Find tips about eyebrow regrowth and eyebrow twitching at the Eyebrow Care website.

Activity Holiday in New Zealand - Stay Busy on Your Holiday

Activity Holiday in New Zealand - Stay Busy on Your Holiday by David Smith
in Travel Tips (submitted 2010-01-24)

Booking an activity holiday in New Zealand is a great way to plan your trip. Using the proper Bass Fishing techniques is necessary if you want to be successful every time you fish for sneaky striped bass. Striped best fishing is the most lucrative in the mid summer because of the warm weather.

Striped bass love warm weather so it makes sense that it would be easy to fish for them during the summer months. In the northeast, the summer is the only time of year where it is warm enough to fish for striped bass. During these months striped bass will be out in large numbers allowing you to catch a large quantity of fish. There are some sneaky striped bass fishing techniques that will allow you to have the advantage over other fishermen.

During the summer months you will be competing with tons of other fishermen for striped bass. Fishing for striped bass is all about being territorial. The best way to do this is to find a spot that many other people aren't fishing in.

This can be difficult, but if you are sneaky you will be able to do it. Another approach is to get to a popular fishing spot early in the morning before most people head out. If you are the first fisherman out you will be able to claim your spot early and get ahead of the game. It is also extremely important to make sure that you do not disturb the fish. If you disturb the striped bass fish then you will instantly scare them away. Many novice fishermen do not understand this fact and they fail extremely quickly.

Many boat motors are too loud and they result in scaring striped bass away from the area that you are fishing in. The best way to ensure that you do not scare fish away is to turn your motor down to the lowest speed. This will reduce the amount of sound that your motor creates. In turn, this will allow you to sneakily approach the striped bass without them knowing. If you really want an extraordinary fishing experience you might even want to take out some oars with you on your motor boat. This will allow you to steer your boat when the motor is off and approach striped bass colonies like a stealth bomber! This is not for the light hearted because it does require quite a bit of work. Yet, many fishermen who use this tactic have the upper hand over fishermen that use traditional motor boats. Using proper technique for catching striped bass is also important. There is a sneaky when that you can cast your line that allows you to trick striped bass. It involves casting your line far in front of the path of the striped bass. The reason for this is that you want to cast your line in front of the fish. This ensures that the fish will see your bait.

Many novice fishermen cast their line behind striped bass which does them no good. This is a bad idea because it puts the bait out of the line of site of the striped bass.

About the Author

Dan Eggertsen is a fishing researcher and enthusiast who is committed to providing the best bass fishing information possible. Resmession! Despite the financial pinch, the public are still keen to go on holiday. Indeed, trips away are one of the last 'non-essential' expenses that consumers will axe when cutting back on their spending. And rightly so - it's important to get away and unwind once in a while. Possibly even more when times are tough.

But where to go? With the Pound faring poorly against the Euro, trips to the Eurozone are less than ideal from an economic point of view. So holidaymakers are increasingly going to mid and long-haul destinations. With this in mind, here are our top ten holiday tips for 2009:

1. Turkey

A typically sunny day at Ephesus, TurkeyTurkey was a notable beneficiary of travellers looking a little further afield in 2008, and should do well with British tourists this year too. Why? Well, it's not only because the Pound will have legs there. It's a top spot for culture vultures, due to its rich history and sites of archaeological interest - including Ephesus, Pergamon and Troy.

And on the days when you don't fancy looking at magnificent old historical structures, there are beaches a-plenty, and great spots for diving. Plus it's nice and hot. Lots of boxes ticked there.

2. Iceland

Iceland has been a particularly expensive destination traditionally. However, its economic plunge in the second half of last year now means that the cost of living is entirely reasonable... Which is great news for bargain hunters.

Iceland is the perfect spot for adventure sport enthusiasts, with plenty of opportunities to go kayaking, cycling, and zipping around on glaciers on a snow-mobile. And if you're not thrilled at the prospect of releasing lots of adrenaline, there's plenty of other stuff to do - including watching geysers, fishing, spotting whales, and lazing around in geothermal pools.

Note that although your EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) will only cover you for urgent medical treatment here - but not repatriation, ongoing treatment or anything less than a medical emergency. As such, comprehensive travel insurance shouldn't be overlooked.

3. Lithuania

This year could well be a good one for Lithuanian tourism. Firstly, this is the millennial anniversary of its name. And secondly, the capital Vilnius is the European Capital of Culture for 2009. The country offers national parks, spa towns, a selection of UNESCO heritage sites such as the Old Town in Vilnius - its historical centre, hearty food, and a bronze statue of Frank Zappa. What more could you possibly want?

4. USA

The Manhattan Bridge, New York, USAAlthough the Pound isn't as strong against the Dollar as it has been, the US is still likely to be a popular destination for Brits abroad in 2009. Why? Well, the election of Barack Obama has brought about a lot of good feeling regarding the US. But that's not all. One of the alluring factors of the States is that there's just so much to see and do. It gets a lot of repeat visitors because it's virtually impossible to do everything you'd want to do in just one trip. And as extra incentive, this year marks the 400th anniversary of the discovery of New York - a city which is already a firm favourite.

If you're heading off to the States, please bear in mind that it is now compulsory to fill in an online ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorisation) form before doing so. For more information, read our article 'Going to the USA? Then Don't Forget ESTA '.

5. South Africa

South Africa is becoming increasingly popular among British holidaymakers. Sterling is faring well against the Rand at the moment, so visitors are likely to get more pow! for their Pound. Which is just as well, because the food is well worth wiring into. Plus rugby fans may well be keen to catch some of The British & Irish Lions tour of South Africa this summer, between the 30th of May and the 4th of July.

A few pointers, though. Medical treatment can be very expensive in South Africa, so going there with anything less than a comprehensive travel insurance policy isn't advised. Also it's well known that there is a lot of crime in South Africa - although this predominantly occurs in the townships, rather than tourist areas. Still, it's an idea to have cover for all eventualities. To find out the latest travel information and advice, go to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office's South Africa page.

6. Egypt

Bargain hunters could do a lot worse than heading towards Egypt. There are countless iconic sights for visitors to experience first hand: the pyramids and Sphinx at Giza, the Valley of the Kings near Luxor, the Temple of Ramses III, the Aswan Dam... We could go on.

Beach lovers are spoilt with a selection of Red Sea resorts. And Egypt's not just exclusive to culture vultures... For those who are up for some Club 18-30 shenanigans, Sharm el Sheikh will be beginning just such a programme this year.

Be sure to read up on the customs before you go however, as what may count as acceptable in the UK may not necessarily be so here. In particular, it's important to dress modestly - especially when visiting traditional spots.

7. Mexico

For lovely beaches, great food and atmosphere, a trip to Mexico is difficult to top. There is an excellent range of all-inclusive deals available, and a trip to this gateway to central America is widely considered to be great value. There will be a number of resorts on the beautiful new Riviera opening this year. And there are now more flights available, as Mexicana airlines launched a new service in January linking Gatwick and Mexico City twice a week.

If saline activity is your thing, then Banderas Bay has a wide range of water activities available - including diving, sailing and even deep sea fishing. There are plenty of fascinating landmarks to see, such as Meso-American ruins, pyramids... And then of course there's the wonderful cuisine and the tequila!

Do bear in mind that English is not as widely spoken outside the major cities as one might expect. So - if you're planning on having a bit of a wander - be sure to at least familiarise yourself with some useful Spanish phrases.

8. Thailand

Beautiful Krabi, ThailandFor friendly folk, enormous cheap fresh fish and among the world's best beaches, Thailand simply rocks. From the temples and tuk-tuks of Bankok, to the white beaches of Krabi and the surrounding islands, you're simply never going to forget a trip to Thailand.

There's something here to suit all budgets. Backpackers are very well catered for, as are flashpackers - travellers with a bit more cash to spend. Although the pound isn't faring against the Baht as well as it could, you're still likely to find that everything is great value - from the five-star hotels all the way down to the cheap market shopping.

Unfortunately at the time of writing, there is uncertainty concerning the political situation in Thailand. Before travelling there, it's recommended that you check out advice from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office's Thailand page.

9. Australia

The Pound has strengthened against the Australian Dollar, so - despite the initial large expense of a flight to the other side of the planet - British tourists should at least get good value while they're there. But they're assured to get good value in terms of sunshine, and things to see and do. Whether you're intending to explore the outback, find out about Aborigine culture, go surfing or sample the nightlife, Australia is sure not to disappoint.

British tourists need a visa to enter Australia, even for a short holiday... So don't leave home without one.

10. The UK

According to a survey in November last year, one in five Britons claim that going abroad for a holiday in 2009 is a luxury that they are unlikely to be able to afford*. But it's well worth bearing in mind that our very own isles are well worth exploring further. Plus you're unlikely to meet with any language barrier, or lose out due to fluctuations in exchange rate.

There are far too many great places in the UK to hope to list here. But just a handful of places that we love include Bath, York, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Pembrokeshire, and Monkey World in Dorset. Plus the number of diverse festivals in the UK has really blossomed over the last few years. They take one back to a simpler time, where small craft product production was the norm. Innovation, variety and nostalgia make this hobby rewarding.

If you are a fisherman who has come across and old tackle box full of lures, you know the magic that comes from collecting old vintage fishing lures and tackle. Although the old lures may be dusty, even a little rusted, they are artifacts of a simpler time in America.

Innovation Of The Small-Scale Entrepreneur

During the golden age of fishing tackle, the late 20th century, small lure manufacturers dominated the industry. The few national brands that did exist were not really mass-marketed in the sense that we know today. Most lures were regional contraptions, made in some hardy soul's garage or basement.

Without having to please mass-market discount stores, the small lure maker could truly innovate. Strange and quirky designs made their way onto shelves of hardware stores and tackle shops.

Heavy Lures Were The Norm

Most antique lures are large - huge, in fact by today's standards. They were designed to be cast with the crude level-wind reels and stiff rods of the time, and were generally heavy, and ran in shallow water, or were fished topwater.

It was not until the advent of modern lines and backlash-free reels that the smaller lures we know today began to dominate.

Lures To Look Out For

When going through the old tackle box, look for wooden plugs with these names stenciled on them: Heddon, Arbogast, South Bend and Creek Chub.

Although you'll find lures by these companies produced now, look for older, larger wood models. Lures with the original box and paperwork are considered more valuable to collectors.

Lure Materials

Old fishing plugs are made from a variety of woods, including red and white cedar, basswood and balsa, although most any hardwood could be used.

Hook technology was not as advanced as today, and you'll most likely find rust on the hooks of older lures, unless they were kept dry.

Paint And Finish

Most vintage lures were painted with a combination of colored lacquer, followed by a coat of clear. One of the most enjoyable aspects of collecting the older lures is the variety and ingenuity of the paint patters.

Old plugs might have intricate airbrushed scale and color patterns, applied by expert craftsmen. While still attractive, this old finish probably would not survive being used regularly, so it's better not the use these lures, but keep them for enjoyment off the water.

Revolution In Tackle Industry

In the 1970's we saw the explosion of fishing from a cottage industry to a full-blown mass market. Bass tournaments, large catalog houses and mass market retailers have made lure manufacturing strictly a made-overseas proposition.

With the advent of the Internet, some small batch lure companies can get enough of a market to survive.

Modern Lures Aren't As Much Fun

Although modern lures have better paint, sharper hooks and run truer in the water, they lack to romance of their older counterparts.

No mass-produced product can equal the mystique and nostalgia of the small-batch, custom made lures of the mid-to-late 20th Century.

These lures will always be popular with collectors, and are steadily increasing in value as the years go by.

I hope this article helps everyone understand the magic of antique lure collecting, a hobby that has fascinated anglers for many years.

About the Author

More Antique Fishing info here.

Three Great International Motorcycle Adventure Trips

Three Great International Motorcycle Adventure Trips by Melanie Broemsen

Tired of the typical beach, golf and ski vacations? Are you ready for a cool, new vacation idea?

Satisfy your wanderlust this year in a unique way by exploring your dream destinations on a motorcycle. Experience new cultures and wildlife from a different perspective and embark on the trip of a lifetime by taking one of these great international motorcycle adventure vacations. We scanned the globe for three great, exciting motorcycle trips, and below are our top three great international motorcycle adventures.

Western U.S. - Beartooth Pass
Indulge in breathtaking scenery, a soaring 11,000 foot summit and scenic switchbacks while getting a history lesson on the American Wild West. This classic western motorcycle ride will take you through the highways and byways of some of America's most spectacular landscapes. Begin in Red Lodge, Mo., sneak your way through the striking natural terrain native only to the West, and then finish your journey in Cody, Wyo.

Shortly after your departure, you'll ascend to Beartooth Plateau, which includes 3,000 square miles of glacier-carved cirques and gentle tundra. You'll continue through a series of thrilling hairpin switchbacks, and experience poetic plateaus such as Silver Run and Hell Roaring. Then, you'll cross into the big sky country of Wyoming and reach a breathtaking altitude of almost 11,000 feet in the Beartooth Mountains. As you descend, nearly a thousand dazzling lakes and a lengthy vein-like network of hiking trails and campgrounds spot the countryside, and are available for your enjoyment.

South America - Chile and Argentina
If a romantic motorcycle adventure reminiscent of the idyllic Motorcycle Diaries is what you had in mind for your travels, take your motorcycle trip through Chile and Argentina. You can spend your days traversing some of the world's most exotic terrain, skirting down roads adjacent to the massive Andes Mountains, and cavorting in breathtaking Patagonia.

Start your trip with a proper celebration in the vibrant city of Santiago. Then, begin the following day just like the locals do - with a few strong sips of energy-inducing mate tea. From there, all you have to do for more adventure is head south.

You can spend a day kayaking the gorgeous fjords of the Chilean Patagonia. After resting in a quaint mountain town, you can hike the majestic forests or treat yourself to a soak in one of the region's many mineral rich hot springs. Then, hop back on your bike and continue south toward Tierra del Fuego as you leisurely weave through Argentina.

Stop along the way to gaze at countryside guanacos, then ascend the mighty Torres del Paine Mountain and watch the grand condors glide along the Andean slopes. From there, cruise through more magnificent mountainside territory until you reach the massive Perito Moreno Glacier, one of the world's largest.

Australia's East Coast
Who embraces outdoor adventure better than the Aussies?

Starting in Victoria, this motorcycle adventure begins with the brilliant coastal views along The Great Ocean Drive, Australia's most stunning beachside road, and ends with the excitement of the famous Gold Coast.

As you ride down the winding seaside drive, you'll hug the curves of the Pacific Ocean and feel the sea spray at your fingertips. Head inland and you make your way northeast, and you'll find Australia's infamous natural wonders, from mountains and rainforests, to deserts and beaches. You'll end the final leg of your motorcycle adventure at Australia's Gold Coast, just south of Brisbane, where you can indulge in fine cuisine and exciting nightlife. If your thirst for adventure hasn't been quenched, hop back on your motorcycle and head north to partake in the plethora of tourist attractions surrounding the Great Barrier Reef, from surfing and scuba diving, to fishing and just simply relaxing.

One great advantage to traveling by motorcycle is that you can choose your own level of self guidance depending on your financial costs, time restraints and the amount of planning you want to put into your trip. If you have more funds and less time to travel, you may prefer to invest in a guided motorcycle adventure tour, in which a touring company will plan the logistics and arrangements for your trip, as well as act as your tour guide. If you have a considerable amount of time to spend planning and executing your adventure, and prefer more freedom to explore, then you'll have no problem researching and creating the motorcycle trip of a lifetime.

If you choose to ship your motorcycle overseas, make sure you plan far in advance to cover these costs, as they can be extensive. Review your motorcycle insurance information to be sure you have enough coverage. Remember to obtain the required visas or driving permits for the country you are planning to visit. Also, ask your local mechanic for a quick lesson on how to change a flat and do other minor repairs to your motorcycle. I know some people in high places. I am on a first-name basis with the president of our PTA. The dog groomer recognizes my dog and knows her name. And, the lady at the grocery store always asks about the kids.
Oh, and I have a friend who works for Disney.

How cool is that?

And the best part, when we visit Disneyland, Mk comes and hangs out with us. It is like having our own personal tour guide. The kids love hanging out with her and hearing stories about testing the new rides or how many times she gets to ride on California Screamin'. I love it because Mk always shares a secret or two with me. This time, she shared 7, and I share them here with you today:

1. The drawbridge in front of the Castle is actually a working drawbridge, and has only been lowered twice in its entire life. Once on opening day, and once again in the 80's when Fantasyland had a major refurbishment and reopened to the guests. 2. Just above the drawbridge as you enter Fantasyland, you will see a crest on the castle. That is the Disney Family crest. 3. It took only 364 days from the first shovel to hit the dirt until opening day to build Disneyland.

4. Main Street is set in 1901, and represents Marceline, Missouri, Walt's boyhood town. 5. The organ that was in the Nautilus from the movie 20,000 Leagues under the Sea has come ashore, and now lives in the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland, in the ballroom scene. 6. In the early years of the Park, the Rivers of America was stocked with catfish and fishing was allowed off the docks of "Tom Sawyer Island". 7. When the original Submarine Voyage opened, it had real mermaids swimming in the water with the submarines. This is perhaps one of the most important questions you have to answer in case you are looking for the best device to improve your catch - figuratively speaking, of course. Fish finders are wonderful fishing tools to invest in and it does not matter if you are fishing for a living, or doing this as a sport or simply as a way to pass the time. This device can aid you greatly while you are out on the water. However, with all the models coming out, and with all those digits attached to the dollar sign as its price, it would really do you well to do enough research before spending all your money.

Again, would you need fixed or portable fish finders? Fixed fish finders are especially useful to the angler, or the fisherman, or sports man (or woman) who uses the same boat, no matter what the occasion is. Some models are small enough to be attached somewhere on the stern, or the trolling motor, or even right there on the hull. Wires can be safely tucked under the bow or floorboards of the boat so that they do not hamper movement. However, for people who prefer having the option of carrying their own portable fish finders for some ice fishing escapades, or fly-in retreats, or even just on rented vessels; portability translates to convenience. So which one is it? The price is also dependent on whether you are getting a fixed or portable fish finder model.

Finding the best display screen (monitor) is also another great way of gauging the quality of the product. With advancements in technology, there is but a few differences between the prices of a 2-D screen output and a 3-D screen output. Monitors with grayscale outputs are also almost at the same price range of colored monitors. Screens with 160x160 pixels are competing in price with those that have 240x240. So why settle for less? If you can afford to spend a little more, investing in a model that is somewhat higher in screen resolution should prove very useful in the future.

Extensive sonar power is essential, but only if you are fishing in very deep waters. Some fishing enthusiasts rarely go to the depths, especially if the fish are biting in shallow waters anyway. But big fish anglers like to attack from deep water, and so would other commercial fishermen who may be after some bigger game. If the latter is your case, you need to pursue your potential device's sonar power, because this is literally the very essence of getting a fish finder. Check specifics like: beam, cone angle and frequency.

Beam refers to the actual sonar pulse sent through the water. Most transducers have single beams. Dual, triple and side beam options may be unnecessary for recreational fishermen, but may prove beneficial to others. If you are not particularly sure about just how many sonar pulses you would actually need in the future, you might want to try choosing a model with upgrade options.

Cone angle deals with how wide the sending beam is transmitted through the water. Depending on the depth of the water, cone angles can widen or diminish. Larger cone means more coverage, regardless of depth.

Frequency is the actual power of given to the sonar beam: the higher the frequency, the stronger the beam.

About the Author

For the best prices and selection of Fish Finders, Marky suggests you visit http://discountfishfinders.net

Salmon Fishing

Salmon Fishing by Shivanna

When you hear people talking about salmon fishing, the discussion usually gets to involve Alaska somehow and probably for a very good reason. Alaska remains a famous salmon home and the right place organize the best fishing expedition ever, all to enjoy the beauty of these kings of fish. Not only the activity in itself offers great rewards, but fishermen come to accumulate very solid knowledge on the kinds of salmon, their role in the river food chain, their unique breeding habits and the like.

Salmon fishing has often been extensively criticized that it endangers the survival of the species, given the increased demand for salmon delicacies on the market. The subject is still under debate some states forbid salmon fishing by law particularly during the mating season. The Internet offers more details on the elements that prevent good salmon fishing or on the contrary increase the chances of success in the best of conditions for the fish and their habitat. Many online reviewers, who are convinced fishing hobbyists, feel the need to share their experiences with other fellow-fishermen who haven't tried salmon fishing, and from such sources lots of things can be learned by the less experienced in the field.

The king salmon peoples the rivers of Alaska coming a long way from the Artic or the Atlantic ocean in search of still pure waters to lay its eggs. The king salmon shares the same routes with the silver variety, and even if subspecies are distinct by size and appearance, they have common features. They will surely give you the excitement of a unique salmon fishing experience. You can fish the king salmon all year round in both fresh and salt water. Although the red salmon live in rivers and oceans alike, in some areas these fish remain in the cold rivers of Alaska; Besides this peculiarity, they also distinguish themselves by the smaller size.

Saltwater salmon fishing is best achieved by trolling or angling a baited line and drawing it into the water, usually at the rear of the boat. Cloudy days create the best of conditions for salmon fishing, since on too bright moments, these creatures will keep their abodes. Anyway, reviews and popular opinion indicate Alaska as the right place to go salmon fishing, but there could be other places nearer to your home that you may want to try. Good luck!

About the Author

Salmon Fishing

LUXURY JASMINE JUNK HALONG

LUXURY JASMINE JUNK HALONG by Martin

LUXURY JASMINE JUNK HALONG

(2 Days / 1 Night) The Halong Jasmine offers an unforgettable ambiance of relaxed elegance. That's the feeling I came away with after watching Bob Woodruff's recent China Inside Out documentary for ABC news. It's regrettable that a journalist of such a high caliber as Woodruff can get so close to a story and not really see it -- while helping to perpetuate a number of dangerous myths about China.
Woodruff's approach seemed very promising at first. He went to four different continents and countries in order to assess the global impacts of China, the countries being Angola, Brazil, Cambodia, and the United States.

The Angolan segment highlighted China's economic development model in Africa. The myth perpetrated in this segment is that the development has actually provided a net benefit to the people of Africa.

In fact, the real truth China is practicing a very sophisticated 21st century version of imperialism in which China loans African countries billions of dollars in exchange for encumbering natural resources. These resources range from oil and natural gas to copper, cobalt, and titanium. As part of its debt encumbrance strategy, China gets to reduce its unemployment rate by using a large Chinese construction workforce to actually do the work - rather than relying so much on the native population.

In this segment, Woodruff makes repeated references to corruption. However, in a glaring omission, he fails to make explicit just how much of the billions in Chinese aid is actually siphoned off into offshore bank accounts held by the African elites. Nor does Woodruff highlight the intense poverty in the countriesChina is supposed to be "benefiting" -- other than offering a few images of slums.

That said, the absolute worst omission of the African segment is Woodruff's failure to mention the Darfur genocide in the Sudan. Instead, the only thing we get is a passing reference to Chinese aid to the Sudan in exchange for oil. In fact,China regularly trades its veto power at the UN for African resources in exchange for shielding African despots from UN interventions.

What made Woodruff's omission all the more galling is that Woodruff did an extensive interview with China's United Nations Ambassador Wang Guangya. This is the same reprehensible "diplomat" who has repeatedly blocked UN action on Darfur. (Wang also has blocked action following the sham Zimbabwe election and the attempts of the West to sanction Iran for its nuclear development). The failure to confront Wang on the Darfur question was tantamount to appeasement -- or, far worse, simple ignorance.

Woodruff's omissions were equally in evidence in his Brazil segment. The theme Woodruff drew here is that China's increasing consumption for soybeans is leading to deforestation of the Amazon and potential environmental problems. The biggest problems with this segment were a lack of visual imagery to portray the destruction of the Amazon, and the lack of science and statistics to explain how deforestation in the Amazon is likely to affect the global environment and crop production.

In fact, most of the Amazon's deforestation occurs during the dry season in an orchestrated slash and burn campaign that fouls the skies throughout South America. Showing that massive environmental carnage -- instead of a few big trees being felled -- would have made for a far stronger presentation. Missing, too, was any good explanation of why we should care about the Amazon. In fact, theAmazon River basin and its rainforest are absolutely critical to the global ecology because they are considered to be the "Lungs of our Planet." By recycling carbon dioxide, the rainforest in particular provides more than 20 percent of the world's oxygen.

Already, more than 20% of the Amazon rainforest has been destroyed while the World Wildlife Fund warns that more than half of the forest will be gone by 2030. According to many scientists, this destruction of the rainforest has the potential to create severe drought conditions not just in South America but also as far north as the American and Canadian farm belts. The result may well be a global food crisis -- high irony indeed given that the destruction of the Amazon rain forest is occurring in the name of increased food production.

Turning to the third segment on Cambodia, Woodruff does a good job tagging the Chinese with at least some responsibility for the Khmer Rouge genocide of millions. Missing in this segment, however, was any insight into the real reason why China is setting up so many sweat shops in Cambodia. Too bad Woodruff didn't get his cameras into some of these sweat shops to expose the slave labor conditions!

My other big beef with the Cambodian segment was the failure of Woodruff to mention how China is using its upstream positioning on the Mekong River to dam that river with bullying impunity. China's dam-happy Mekong River design will eventually include 15 mega-dams. These mega-dams are likely to create economic and environmental effects that are vast and far-ranging -- and Cambodiais at the front lines of this onslaught.

To understand the problem, consider the impacts of China's dams on one of the world's most fascinating ecological treasures, the legendary Lake Tonle Sap in Cambodia. For much of the year, the lake is only a yard deep with a footprint of only a bit more than 1,000 square miles. During the rainy season, however, flow from the Mekong River helps deepen the lake to roughly 30 feet and increases the area of the lake more than five-fold. This turns Lake Tonle Sap into one of the best breeding grounds for fish in the world.

The obvious problem facing the Tonle Sap is that the China's mega-dams are evening out the flow of water and thereby preventing the world's most fertile natural fishery from realizing its full depth and breadth in the critical fish breeding season. Already, fish catches have declined dramatically. This is already having a significant negative effect on Cambodia's fishing economy.

Woodruff clearly saved the worst for last in his discussion of the impacts of Chinaon the American economy. He leads off the segment by helping to perpetuate the myth that China's emergence as the world's factory floor is the result of cheap, hard-working labor. (The mouthpiece here is Evan Osnos, Beijing Bureau Chief for the Chicago Tribune -- an otherwise cogent voice.)

In fact, my research has clearly shown that cheap labor is only a small part of the China puzzle. Much of China's advantage in world markets comes from five unfair mercantilist trade practices that include a complex web of illegal export subsidies, blatant currency manipulation, counterfeiting and piracy that lowers production costs, and lax environmental and health and safety standards that likewise lower production costs.

That China blatantly manipulates its currency seems to be totally lost on both Woodruff and the seemingly clueless Fareed Zakaria. Indeed, it is Zakaria who helps perpetuate the myth that the Chinese are more frugal savers than American consumers and that's why China helps the U.S. with its debt by buying U.S.treasury bills.

Note to Woodruff and Zakaria: The purchase of U.S. treasury bills is an integral part of the currency manipulation process. To maintain China's fixed peg to the dollar and keep the yuan grossly undervalued, China must recycle dollars back into the U.S. Of course, individual Chinese citizens have no say in this matter; rather they are merely press-ganged into their frugality by China's central bank -- which wants to keep exports to the U.S. cheap and imports into China dear. (It's no accident the U.S. trade deficit regularly hits record highs.)

The failure of Zakaria to understand this currency manipulation process (and the broader role of unfair trade practices in China's grab of American markets) makes it perfectly understandable why Zakaria ignorantly advises that the U.S. has only two options with China: "either ride the wave or drown in it." In fact, what theU.S. government should be doing to prevent the loss of American jobs is cracking down on China's unfair trade practices. Leveling the playing field would go a long way towards bringing jobs back to the U.S.

On that note, it is useful to point out perhaps the biggest myth of the documentary - one perpetuated by none other than Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York. His Honor piously insists that "the jobs that [China] is creating are low-priced jobs" and "that's not the kind of jobs we want for our citizens."

Note to the Mayor: While you've apparently been sleeping, China has moved steadily up and across the value chain into everything from autos and biopharma to commercial aircraft. It's not just about cheap toys and sneakers anymore.

My bottom line is that I would love to see an in-depth, fair and balanced critical look at the economic, environmental, military, political, and social impacts of China on rest of the world. All that we have gotten so far from TV is a bunch of puff pieces that miss many of the major points and keep perpetuate a set of very dangerous myths.

©2008 Peter Navarro

Author Bio Peter Navarro a business professor at the University of California-Irvine, is the author of the best- selling investment book If It's Raining in Brazil, Buy Starbucks and the path-breaking management book, The Well-Timed Strategy. Essential for survival, the knife was developed out of necessity and has evolved through the ages. From knives made of flint, to copper, to iron, humans have a unique relationship to this tool, creating it out of the strongest material available and adorning them with patterns and decoration. A knife is a personal possession that is valued for its craftsmanship and usefulness.
Perhaps the most recognized knife in the world, the Bowie Knife has an intriguing history. The story begins in 1831 when Jim Bowie brought a whittled wooden model of his ideal knife to blacksmith James Black. Several weeks later, Black had produced two knives. The second was a modified version of Bowie's design. Bowie chose Black's version as it had a double edge. Soon, Black was inundated with requests from customers who wanted a knife like Bowie's. The knife's unique shape and hallmark large blade became popular for its use as both a weapon and as a tool for fishing and hunting.

The knife also gained popularity as a result of a fight Bowie was involved in Texas with three men hired to hill him. Bowie killed his would-be assailants and the reputation of the Bowie knife was established. After Bowie's death five years later at the Battle of the Alamo, both he and his knife became immensely famous.

Over the years, many knives have been referred to as Bowie knives. The term has become a generic one for any large sheath knife. Despite all the variations, it is said that for a knife to be considered a Bowie knife, it must be long enough to use as a sword, sharp enough to use as a razor, wide enough to use as a paddle, and heavy enough to use as a hatchet.

Forged in Japan during the Heian Period when Confucianism and other Chinese influences were at their height, the tanto knife lacked any artistic value and was created purely as a weapon. Later, it developed into an aesthetically pleasing weapon. Yoshimitsu was the greatest tanto maker in Japanese history and during his lifetime the tanto achieved a place of artful design.

A smaller version of the katana, the tanto differs from others as it was designed primarily as a stabbing instrument but possesses an edge that can slash as well. Unlike the katana, tanto are forged in hira-zukuri, meaning they have no ridge-line, unlike the shinogi-zukuri shape of the katana. The classic Japanese tanto shape has the point of the knife in line with the spine of the blade and a graceful belly curve. With a blade length of only 6 to 12 inches, the tanto cuts soft targets very well.

The tanto were most often carried by samurai, the military nobility of pre-industrial Japan. Although commoners rarely carried a tanto, women sometimes possessed a small tanto in their obi, or shash, for self defense.

A 12-inch fighting and utility knife, the Ka-Bar was first used by the U.S. Marines in World War II and has been carried into battle by Marines since. Originally designed as a hunting knife in the 1800s, the Ka-Bar reached popularity with soldiers who needed a knife suited to trench warfare. Its final shape was decided by the Marine Corps, who introduced a slightly longer blade, a smaller fuller, or beveled groove, on the flat side of the blade, and the stacked leather handle. From box cutter to can opener to hand-to-hand combat, the Ka-Bar is the preferred piece of equipment with the U.S. Marine Corps and has become a symbol of the Marines.

About the Author
Safecutters Inc., provides an online store of utility knife box cutters for opening shipping boxes and shipping packages, as well as safety knives to open moving boxes and packages. Secure Your Fly Fishing Knots

Fresh Fish! Secure Your Fly Fishing Knots by Rich Evans

Knowing only a few basic fly fishing knots can help you limit the number of stories you have about "the one that got away...". Sometimes a fisherman who is rushing to get their line in the water will tie a knot that is simply not strong enough to hold a larger than expected fish. On the other hand, many take the time to tie their best knot but simply do not know enough to tie it properly. Whether the knot is meant to hold the line to the rod or to attach the fly the strength of the fly fishing knot can make all the difference in how your next fishing tale begins.
The arbor knot is one fo the most commonly used fly fishing knots. It is used to secure the fly line to the arbor of the reel. To tie a strong arbor knot you need to wrap the line around the spool and tie an overhand knot around the line. Then tie a second overhand knot a few inches past the first knot.

Lightly wet the line and pull the second knot tight. Hold the spool in one hand and pull the line with tight with the other. The first knot will prevent the line from skipping through the second knot. The end can be trimmed and the reel can be loaded with line. The wet line will provide lubrication and help form tighter fly fishing knots.

Knots for Flies With Bent Eyes

One of the other fly fishing knots used most often is the turle knot, used to attach flies to the line. Pass the lead end of the line through the eye of the fly and then make at least two wraps around the standing line, passing the leading end through the now formed loop, which forms an overhand knot. Once you pull this snug, you can pass the fly through the large remaining loop, tighten it down and trim the extra line. This type of fly fishing knots allows the fly to move more realistically on the water.

One of the keys to tying successful fly fishing knots is to moisten the line with saliva or lake water before tying the knot. This will lubricate the line making it easier to pull taught. When the line dries it will be stronger than a line that was tied dry.

Be careful when tying a thin line. If you pull the knots too tight the line will break. Before casting any line onto water make sure to check the strength of your fly fishing knots by pulling on the line with at least as much pressure as you expect the line to hold.

Tips For The Fly Fishing Beginner

Some useful tips can help you get started as a fly fishing beginner. Fly fishing is an ancient sport dating back to Rome that has risen in popularity in recent years.

Fly Fishing: The Basics

Fly fishing is the sport of catching fish with hand tied lures, known as flies. These flies are often bits of feathers and fake fur, that are wound with brightly colored line to make them look more like real bugs. For the fly fishing beginner, there are numerous kits available that will walk you step by step through the fly tying process, so that you can create your own little works of art. The second thing that the fly fishing beginner needs to have is the right pole. Remember that a true fly rod is longer and heavier than a regular fishing pole. This is due largely to the fact that the fish you will be catching with your fly rod are much larger than the fish caught with regular fishing poles.

If you are a fly fishing beginner, it is probably a good idea to take a few casting classes prior to heading out on your very first fishing expedition. These casting classes will help you to learn the proper technique for allowing the wind to do most of the work for you when you cast your line. Although stronger than normal fishing line, the line used for fly fishing is much lighter. This allows the wind to carry the line further into the body of water where you are fishing, so that you can have an easier time of catching the skittish sport fish.

A guide can be very helpful if you are fly fishing for the very first time. They are trained specially to find the very best places for beginners to fish. They also help beginners develop a fishing technique, which will guide you for the rest of your fishing life. It may seem a bit extravagant to pay someone to teach you to fish, but it is an invaluable investment in a hobby which can serve you well your entire life.

You are starting out on a fabulous journey as a fly fisher. Most important of all, enjoy the experience and make sure your next catch doesn't turn into "the one that got away!"

About the Author
Rich Evans - The Fly Fishing Expert
Learn What EXPERT Fly Fishermen Know About Fly Fishing
http://www.flyfishing-knots.com/

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://go-gofishing.blogspot.com/2008/07/fresh-fish-secure-your-fly-fishing.html' title='Fresh Fish! After tossing the soil onto the small hill beside you, you crouch down and look carefully at the dirt. You peer carefully at the soil. Then with your gloved hand you sift through the dirt, in search of your prized possession. You aren’t looking for gold, emeralds or the bone that your dog buried last year. You’re searching for earthworms to store in your Coleman cooler, for your next camping and fishing trip. Whether you fish in Holmes Country Ohio or a different location, live bait is an excellent choice. But how can you collect it?
Fishing before fishing Regardless of whether you camp and fish in Holmes County Ohio or any other county, lures may be a more effective way of catching fish, then live bait is. Some species of fish are simply easier to catch with either lures or live bait. And sometimes this is a judgment call that you need to make. But generally, you should use live bait if you literally want bigger fish to fry (or grill at your campground) when fishing in the ocean. Also, if you want a unique challenge, try fly-fishing with live bait. I tried it once, and can attest that it’s a blast!

But whether or not you live in Amish Country in Ohio, or Holmes County Ohio, part of the difficulty in fishing with live bait, is catching it. You can always buy the bait at a bait shop, but the experience is not quite the same. When hunting for live bait, you should follow some simple guidelines, to make it easier.

Worm your way out of the soil Earthworms make excellent live bait, but they can be tougher to catch than you might expect. Here are some tips to make the process easier:

• Wear gloves to make it easier to sift through a handful of dirt. It’s a dirty job but someone has to do it! • Only catch as many earthworms as you need, and use them as speedily as possible. • Search for the critters in dark and wet areas, such as underneath logs and rocks. • Dig into the ground for earthworms when the ground is damp and soft, and particularly after it has rained • Put caught earthworms in a small container with some soil, and then place the container in a Coleman cooler.

Cast away! For more advanced fishing when camping, you will need to catch different bait. In creeks, you can use a cast net to catch baitfish such as minnows, mullets, and shrimp. And in the summertime, you can easily catch baitfish, such as mullets, in saltwater. Use your net close to where the surf breaks along a shoreline. Super Sabiki rigs However, when water is deeper than roughly 20 feet, Sabiki rigs are more effective than cast nets. The reason is that the nets cannot sink speedily enough to catch the fishes. What makes them special? Sabiki rigs contain tiny hooks with a tiny bit of Mylar attached to them. This allows the Sabiki rigs to mimic tiny fishes or shrimps. In particular, red hooks tend to be the most effective in catching the most baitfish.

To Sabiki or not to Sabiki Since the Sabiki rigs essentially can only be used once, the cast nets have more value. But wait! If fishing is more than a once-a-year pastime for you, then it is wise to invest in the cast net.

Fishing is fun. And it can be very more fun with live bait. Whether or not you are fishing in Holmes Country Ohio , located in Holmes County Ohio, simply filling your Coleman cooler with caught baitfish can make your fishing experience rewarding.

About the Author
for more information on Holmes Country Ohio go to www.berlinhotelandsuites.com

Tips for Canadian fishing

Tips for Canadian fishing by Miodrag Trajkovic

Canada is a haven for fishing and hunting with its extraordinary number of fishing lakes and a variety of established cabins and resorts. Every year, tons of tourists flock these sites to exhibit their love for the sport or just to enjoy the peaceful scenery and relax while fishing.
If you decide to visit Canada for a fishing trip, here are some tips for you to enjoy your trip.

Acquiring a license?

Non-residents of the area at the age of 18 and above must acquire a license in order to fish and to abide by the regulations of the lake. Those under 18 can still fish but only with licensed adults. However, the person under 18 can't have a catch limit, so it's still recommended to purchase a license for under 18 fisherman.

What hooks and baits to use?

Most lakes in Canada have catch and release regulations. This also includes the kind of hook to use. The regulations permit single barbless hook, which can be done by filling in or squeezing the barbed area. This is done to decrease the death rate of fish being caught and released to the lake.

As for baits, live-bait fish is a big no-no for catch and release lakes. So bring alternative baits required by the lakes you're going to fish at.

Dealing with trophy fishes

You never know, you could get a trophy fish in no time. However, in catch and release lakes, it's necessary for you to return the trophy fish back to the water. In order to preserve your triumph in catching one, you should measure the length and girth of the fish. Take a picture afterwards for proof of your success.

How to release the fish?

Being careful is the key so the fish is still breathing while you release it to the water. Play the fish quickly and release it as soon as you have taken the measurements and the picture. Remember to quickly remove the hook from the fish as soon as you get it. Don't squeeze the fish too much or poke the gills or the eye sockets.

If the fish becomes unconscious, you should hold it upright in the water then move it to and fro to let the water run into the gills. After a few minutes, the fish will struggle and that's the time to release it.

The best way to enjoy Canadian fishing is to integrate these tips and enjoy the scenery. Good luck with fishing and most importantly, have fun!

About the Author
Do you need more information on FISHING IN CANADA? Because geographically, the country is made up of massive and solid land areas, not many beaches can be found except if you would go to Canadian coasts in the eastern and western tips. However, fishing is still one of the leisure and occupational activities that make the country popular.
There are numerous major rivers that run across and within Canada. Thus, local folk are very familiar and adept into the habit and necessity of fishing for freshwater fish. Aside from rivers, there are also lakes, ponds and even creeks that are well maintained so as to continue being a haven and habitat for various species of fish.

If you are aiming to go fishing in Canada, you must prepare to lodge and board in six major areas or destinations. These Canadian provinces or regions are Ontario, Nova Scotia, Northwest Territories, Manitoba, British Columbia and Alberta.

Ontario is where more rivers and lakes can be easily found. The Grand River, the Thames River, Detroit River and the Speed River are among the numerous popular rivers that run across the stretch of Ontario. Sawdust Lake is a water body where many fish species like trout, pickerel and perch are abundant.

If you aim for salmon, you should check out the Margaree River in Nova Scotia. Kasba Lake is identified with the Triple Trophy fishing competition in the Northwest Territories. There are sheltered fishing sites and lakes in Manitoba and there is the famous Pitt River in British Columbia. Pitt River is considered the most diversified body of water, in terms of inhabiting species, in this part of the world.

What is more interesting is that in these fishing trip destinations, most tourists are finding a host of many other physical activities and leisure during their stay at Canadian fishing resorts or destinations. In most cases, visitors come to a number of beautifully maintained sight-seeing reports.

Thus, finding and securing rooms and accommodations for the vacation isn't a problem for Canadian fishing trip destinations. Tourists know that if anyone wants to find some quality time for ones self, packing things and taking flight services immediately bound to Canada will surely be easy. In different fish resorts across the Canada, you'll realize how important fishing is to the country.

About the Author
Do you need more information on FISHING IN CANADA? This way they can continuously hone their skills for whatever season it may be.

Before engaging in archery fishing, one must first take into consideration the following:

1. A fisherman must be duly licensed. Some states require that an individual have a state license to fish.

2. Equipment. Most states have a predetermined set of approved equipment for archery fishing.

3. Archery Safety Course. Still, some states require that an individual go through an approved safety course for archery fishing to ensure that the individual is well versed with the proper safety precautions and information regarding applicable laws in fishing.

4. Seasons. Bow fishing in some states can only be done in certain seasons. This is to allow the fish to spawn.

5. Species of fish. Some states have rules forbidding archery fishing for some species of fish.

The following skills are necessary for an individual to obtain and practice:

Knot tying. Though it may seem like a simple task, tying knots that will not slip (line for the arrow) are crucial in bow fishing.

Tuning. Tuning is making sure that the bow is at its best working condition. To ensure this, one has to continuously adjust the rest and calibrate the nock.

For a faster tuning process, one may shoot a regular bow-fishing arrow (without the tip) onto a target made of cardboard.

Marksmanship or targeting. Bow fishing and bow hunting, though similar on some aspects, really do differ on many things. Arrows for bow fishing are heavier, have larger arrow tips and, the most obvious one, has a string attached to the arrow.

And since fish are shot in the water, resistance differs as when compared to shooting in the air (for bow hunting of games)

There are various methods or ways of archery fishing. This includes the following:

1. Still hunting. A fisherman selects a place by the lake in which he would wait for passing fish to shoot its bow at.

2. Stalking. This can be done on foot or while on a boat. One is in constant motion in an attempt to locate fish.

3. Ambush. Fish that are best ambushed are the ones that are spawning since they tend to crowd thus increasing chances of target.

About the Author
Submit your articles and get a PR4 backlink to your website! It started in the late 18th century and continues to progress until today.
It probably was originally practiced in search for food among the people in the south of the United States. Since then, it has started gaining numerous audiences of all ages and nations. Today, countries such as Australia, Cuba, South Africa, United States and most of Europe participate in this kind of event.

Timelines

• The year 1768 or 1770 represents the birth of bass fishing sports. Onesimus Ustonson introduced his first multiplying reels to the fishing gurus and lovers. It was later developed into bait caster.

• William Shakespeare Jr. materializes the production of a level wind device and secured its patent on 1897.

• The William J. Jamison Co introduced the overly ornamented Shannon Twin Spinner in 1915 and was improved to create today’s spinner baits.

• In 1932, President Franklin D. Roosevelt instituted the creation of Tennessee Valley Authority and encouraged the creation and building of numerous dams. These dams were later used for culturing different varieties of bass fishes.

• Five years later, DuPont Company filed patent for nylon fishing net, this was later developed into nylon monofilament fishing line.

• The year 1992 is one of the most glorious events in the history of bass fishing. Larry Nixon, the famous fisherman in the history of bass fishing won $1 M total earnings for this sport on this year.

Bass Fish

Several fish species that are being caught in the bass fishing events are the following:

• Micropterus salmoides (Lacepede) - Largemouth Bass • Micropterus dolomieui - Smallmouth bass • Micropterus punctatus - Kentucky Bass

Other species of Micropterus are also caught but one that remains popular is the Largemouth bass. However, it should be emphasized that Australian Bass are different from the above North American Bass variants although most share similar features.

Perhaps, the most robust success of Bass Fishing was in the 1950s. The popularity of the game during this period is the springboard to the development of modern fishing equipments from bass boats, rods, lines, lures and various fishing gears.

Electronic gears were also incorporated among the host of equipments bass fishers used at that time. Reels of different types, which function in hauling and hoisting, were also created.

The contribution of bass fishing industry to the US economy records $50 to $70 Billion and the number continues to grow. Statistics show that the audience base of this sport is increasing and that more and more people are getting interested in it compared to tennis and golf.

About the Author
Submit your articles and get a PR4 backlink to your website! Modern fishing rods contain reels, which aid in the retrieval of fish caught in its bait.
A much-sophisticated feature is the spinning rod where the entire shaft of the rod except the handle can move around on its axis to allow flexibility when fish caught on snare bait struggles through the water.

Like the classic cane fishing rods, the fishing gadget is thick at the handle (bottom) and is tapered and thinner at the tip. This very basic design allows handling stability and flexible movement of the entire length of the shaft.

Types of Fishing Rods and Specifications

A typical fishing rod measures 6 and 16 feet (2 and 5 m) and vary in capability to tolerate strain in fishing activity. The length has a lot to do with withstanding force exerted by the fish to the pole and determines for the most part the performance of rods used for angling.

Cane Poles

Cane poles are one of the smallest and less sophisticated gadgets in fishing. It is usually made of bamboo or other flexible wood material with the most basic fly line attached to it.

Unlike other more sophisticated fishing rods, cane poles do not usually contain reels or its equivalent to be used for reeling in or retrieving fish caught on bait. This very same action is known as angling.

Spinning Rods

These types of rods are the most popular today. They can be used either for heavyweight or lightweight fish although they were proven best for trout, walleye and bass fish. They vary in measurements from 5 and 7 feet (1.5 and 2.5 m).

Spinning poles are commonly used in bass fishing competition accounting for their flexibility and tolerance to stress. They accommodate bigger and tougher fly lines and stabilize them to avoid line tangles during uncoiling of float lines.

Jigging Rods

These rods are best for heavy lures and baits especially when reaching around 180 to 200 feet under the ocean’s surface. They are made of fine, solid materials which accounts to their heaviness. The use of jigging rods is specifically due to alternating currents during the fishing activity.

Some oceans have erratic undersea current. That is why the bait and fly lines should be kept in place. Lures are also disturbed and cause confusion among fish if the lines are not long and heavy enough to withstand and tolerate water currents under the sea.

These rods are best for target fishes usually found dwelling at the bottom of the sea such as halibut and cods.

About the Author
Submit your articles and get a PR4 backlink to your website! The thicker the ice the better for most ice fisherman. Ice fishing sound very cold but if you have the right shelter or ice house you can be as toasty as sitting in your own home.
An ice fishing shelter is a great way to start out ice fishing. A shelter is mobile so that you can go to any lake at any time. A shelter is more of a protective covering than anything. It gives you shelter from the weather and it will allow you to have a small heater to keep warm with. Many shelters are simply like a tent with hard flooring. Many other styles of ice fishing shelters are folding, all terrain vehicle mounted, and home built and flip over ones. If you are planning on fishing on just one lake you may want to look at a more permanent shelter.

Permanent shelter also known as ice fishing house are constructed directly on the ice. Some people will build it then haul it out on the ice. Building your own ice house is like building your own ice clubhouse. Make it however you want to. Some places you can rent ice houses for fishing expeditions and they have fireplaces, kitchens and beds in them. Make your ice fishing house a home away from home but be aware of the dangers of ice fishing.

Ice fishing is great fun but as with everything else in life there are dangers that accompany this fun sport. Always growing up you hear no ice is safe ice, well that is true no matter how old you are. When going out to walk on the ice it needs to be at least 4 inches of solid ice, to drive on the ice it needs to be 12 inches and to have a house on it you need to have 14 -18 inches of good solid ice.

The beginning and the end of the season are the most dangerous times to be ice fishing. The ice will vary in thickness at these times. Being aware of these simply rules can save your life while enjoying the sport of ice fishing Good luck with getting the catch of the day!

About the Author
Craig Thornburrow is an acknowledged expert in his field. Below is a short list of a sample of ingredients of common household items pertinent to how and why your carp bait may work and for many varied different reasons...

Skin cream: Forms of potent salicylates as found naturally in waterside plants for example.

Washing powder: 'Biologically active' enzymes from micro-organisms.

Hair gel: Potato starch. Propylene glycol. Glycerine. Limonene.

Body cream: Limonene, Citronellal. Urea! Sodium chloride. Herb extracts, e.g. Borago officinalis seed oil. Forms of alcohol. Propylene glycol. Coconut oil. Sesame seed oil. Evening primrose oil.

Mouthwash: Sodium saccharin.

Washing-up liquid: Surfactants (like lecithins in foods, supplements etc.) Fragrances.

Shampoo: Forms of betaine. (Some are among the most highly stimulatory of carp bait additives.) Almond oil. Ascorbic acid. Citric acid. Propylene glycol. Sodium chloride and other salt forms. Acetate forms. Geraniol. Limonene. Glycerine. Hydrolysed wheat protein. Hydrolysed soy protein. 'Methyl' containing substances. Perfumes / fragrances / smells and components, e.g. Amyl cinnamol. Lysine hydrochloride. Forms of alcohol. 'Organic' acids. Vegetable amino acids. Hydrolysed keratin.

Conditioner: Hydrolysed silk. Forms of lysine. Vegetable amino acids. Hydrolysed soy protein. Forms of alcohol. Citric acid. Glycerine.

Cleaners: Solvents, fragrances (Smells etc,) e.g. Limonene, citronellal.

Cough syrup: Herbal extracts. Liquorice. Glucose. Sucrose. Citric acid. Lemon oil.

The truth about why so many of these substances and those like them effect a fish to consume your hook is not necessarily a series of 'scientific absolutes.' We can base many theories on results conducted in laboratory conditions, but these still do not represent real fishing scenario results. However, here's a few suggestions:

The carp's whole body, taste and smell organs in fish are designed and arranged to maximise the resources opportunities and warn of threats to health and well-being and are truly advanced. Fish can detect electrical fields some of which are more favourable and attractive to them. They even detect their environment in part by detecting small water pressure wave changes in the water around them. They have good eyesight although significantly different to ours which is a bonus when chasing other fish. This might surprise some anglers carp are 'omnivorous' like us, but can turn predatory like us too. I've seen live fry jumping out from the mouth of a hooked and landed carp at a time when small fry were the most abundant food source in a lake at the time for instance.

Their 'food message' receptors have evolved to especially be tuned to substances which enable them to survive at the basic level. This includes detecting salinity changes in the water, reproductive hormones and other hormones like stress hormones from a fighting hooked fish released into the water. The basic essentials of their diet differ in particular ways from a human one, but then they are aquatic with totally different predominant natural diets to air breathing mammals for example.

They are especially stimulated and attracted to those substances essential for life. Very high sensitivity to salts, amino acids (building blocks of proteins) even certain compounds given off by a putrefying fish and even urea have proven extremely stimulatory to actual feeding response. Substances like betaine, a wide variety of acids, oils, natural plant extracts (like salicylates, phenols,) etc occur naturally in their environment. There is good reason why fruiting mulberry bushes overhanging a water are a great attraction to carp. Many natural food items have proven to have amino acid profiles which attract carp more than others. Many shelled food items contain betaine so carp are well tuned to find this food having evolved to exploit the life forms around them.

Obviously many flavours, solvents, fragrances, alcohols etc are far more easily detected when highly soluble in water. Some flavours actually taste sour or bitter and their attraction may be more related to smell effects and bait taste-changing and bait pH effects. (The impact of acids of many kinds is very significant for example.) Glycerine is found in some commercial fish farm stimulant mixtures (along with amino acid supplementation, betaine, herbal extracts etc.) It is clear that amino acids which are very important in the diet and may often be in short supply in the diet will have a more stimulatory effect on carp food 'message' receptors. (Lysine, methionine, arginine and alanine for example.)

Of course carp have no hands and can only sample potential food by touching it with various parts of its body with receptors in the skin etc like in the fins barbels, head, around the mouth etc. Fortunately for us anglers, carp have specially adapted receptors in the mouth which help further determine if a food item is actually edible or not. (But this does not mean carp get it right all the time and also never make mistakes.) Using sweeteners like forms of sugar can really help bait performance as these have proven to particularly stimulate receptors inside the mouth (the 'palatial' receptors.)

Many items catch carp which have no food value at all directly, but may well help to improve digestion, even contribute to the natural balance of gut bacteria essential for complete digestion. Many substances used in baits in terms of 'smell' and 'flavours' are stimulatory to the 'search and find' fish mode of behaviour, if only very temporarily. Some flavour components are far more stimulatory than others, sometimes it depends on pH of the water and temperature, others on the type and concentration of acids detected by the fish.

A good example is the now famous 'n-butyric acid' currently often used in conjunction with a pineapple flavour in a boilie. 'Flavours' are a very complex subject indeed but it is true that many bait formulations do not need 'flavours' of any kind depending upon their ingredients own particular features and benefits to impact the fish. Some so-called 'flavours' may really be seen as well designed fish receptor triggers with properties and actions on fish which go far beyond taste and smell, even stimulating a fish's metabolism and consequential favourable behaviour. Many ingredients are particularly effective beyond any nutritional attraction and have great smell / taste properties. For example, blue cheese powder (E.g., proteins, amino acids, salts, flavours and significantly, n-butyric acid.)

The fact that a totally 'neutral' flavourless piece of plastic can fool a carp into consuming a hook is a very interesting one. However, I've found neutral artificial baits benefit from additional extracts impregnated into them and when treated completely out-fish plain untreated ones. Many hydrolysed ('predigested') ingredients are used in carp and catfish baits.) Fermented shrimp paste is one notable old secret additive. Apart from nutritional attraction, certain additives and flavours exert powerful effects upon the nervous state and brain chemistry of fish. Certain substances act as brain-altering and behaviour altering agents.

In certain ways, many of the effectively proven ingredients used in baits are literally 'drugging' the fish and altering behaviour so raising chances of hooking an excitedly stimulated fish in your swim. For example, everyone knows about hemp, although hemp provides serious health and nutritional benefits and attraction even containing live enzymes. (Yes it does contain a substance which was a popular drug taken recreationally in the 1960's / 70's etc.) Resinous or oleoresinous compounds are very often attractive to carp containing powerful substances and the 'tetrahydrocannabinol' in hemp resin is a prime example.

Different industries are developing new products all the time and many new discoveries may also be of interest to us. It's only recently that synthetic resins from certain carp attractive peppers have been made widely available. It makes you wonder what the future holds, what form 'ultimate baits' might take. I for one am passionate about carp because the fish I am most interested in catching are not necessarily easy to catch and the variables keep changing all the time which makes things so much more interesting.

I realise some of you reading this can catch carp with ease due to insignificant angling pressure where a strawberry 'Wheatie' or sweetcorn from the can might be all you'll ever need. However many anglers need far more than that to even get a bite at some 'pressured' carp waters in a whole year and any extra edge really does make all the difference.

The author has many more fishing and bait 'edges' any of which can have a huge impact on your catches.

By Tim Richardson.

About the Author
For the unique expert bait making / enhancing fishing 'bibles' ebooks / books:

"BIG CATFISH AND CARP BAIT SECRETS!" Kayak fishing is simply fishing from a kayak. With the help of these kayaks, you can reach certain places that would have been impossible with large boats.
For people who like serenity of their fishing spots and want to get away from overcrowded fishing areas, then kayak fishing is the option. A kayak is actually an inflatable fishing vessel that is very convenient and takes just a few minutes to set up. Kayaking allows you to quickly reach a desired point where there are some great fishing resources. Note you can do your kayak fishing in both sea water and freshwater.

If you are just about to start kayaking, then you can have some expert teach you who can improve on your skills and also give you some great tips. Note, too, there are some basic things you need to remember while fishing using kayak:

1) If you are thinking about purchasing a kayak for yourself, then gather as much information you can. Know everything about a kayak before buying it. Discover expert opinions on body type and dimensions of kayak. There is all sorts of information available on internet, or you can even join forums that will help to decide on which type of kayak to choose.

2) Some kayak-buying issues revolve around the variety or species of fish you want to go after. You can definitely get the right kind of kayak if you keep the type fish in mind that you'd like to catch. Kayaks are available in many different thickness and compositions; it will depend on type of water and variety of fish.

3) you can have a kayak that is specifically made for fishing. For example, there are many different types of kayaks available in the market like the "sit - on - top" styles, specially designed for fishing. This type of kayak is like a modified surfboard that will suit your fishing needs. These kayaks have drainage holes to drain off water and are lighter and shorter.

First and foremost, your goal should be safety. Take all essential and appropriate safety precautions before you go for kayak fishing. Check weather and tide position before planning your trip; if weather is rough then don't take undo risk and postpone your trip.

Note a kayak has hatches, so make sure that those hatches are closed while you are fishing - this is most important thing to remember while you are fishing. With opened hatches, water can enter your kayak.

Once you are in middle of water, use your anchor to keep your kayak steady. With steady and secure anchoring with your kayak, you can concentrate more on fishing than steadying your kayak.

Muna wa Wanjiru Has Been Researching and Reporting on Kayaking for Years. GPS devices have become the latest in technology and water safety when it comes to fishing. They are used as a means of navigation and a way to mark your spot so that you can find it again in the future.

A GPS is a Global Positioning System that is made primarily for navigational purposes. They work off a network of satellites that are placed into orbit by the United States Government. The best part about a GPS system is that because they operate off satellite, they can be used in any weather conditions at any hour of the day.

The satellites will circle the earth twice during the day and transmit signal information to Earth. The signals can then be used to calculate the user's exact location by implementing triangulation and pinpointing exact spots. Triangulation means that the GPS receiver must be locked into three spots before a calculation of longitude and latitude can be displayed. After the satellites have mapped the location, the GPS can narrow in on other satellites for useful information such as speed, track, trip distance, destination distance and sunrise or sunset times.

The accuracy of the GPS system is very acute because of the multi-channel designs that are available. A GPS will lock onto a satellite and maintain that lock through one of their channels. A GPS fish finder is accurate up to fifteen meters while the newer models increase in accuracy up to three meters.

There are many benefits to investing in a GPS and people are using GPS more regularly and relying on them more than the more traditional ways of navigation such as maps and charts. If you have plot points that you have saved on a GPS, you may be able to save time and frustration on the open seas by going directly to the location that had the fish the last time you went out. Another advantage to the GPS is that it can detect hot fishing spots that may not be detected by older maps or charts. In addition, if you find a perfect fishing spot, you can share it with a friend when you go fishing on another boat.

GPS systems are also a great safety tool when you are out on the water. Many times, especially if there are many people socializing on a boat, it can be easy to lose concentration. People will easily be turned around or lost and a GPS is an easy tool to use to find your way back home. You can also use a GPS system if there is unexpected bad weather such as fog or heavy rain. GPS systems are also equipped with mapping software that makes it easier to find a dock. The GPS is so accurate that it is able to communicate exact positions to the Coast Guard or rescue crew if an emergency arises.

You can purchase a handheld GPS online or at your local marine or boating store. Ask a salesperson to help explain the different features and costs for the varying models. If you decide to purchase your boat from a dealer, you may have an option for a built-in GPS. Your local boat supplier will be able to give you a reference to someone who can properly install your electronics.

You should never rely on just one navigation tool when you are fishing. A GPS seems to cover all of the bases, but it is still a computerized tool. You should always be proactive about your safety and always have marine maps and charts onboard at all times. You should also have a handheld radio or cell phone handy in case of emergencies.

Clearwater Cabin Living

About the Author
Mike Powers owns Clearwater Cabin Living, a collection of interesting links, articles and products that reflect and teach how to achieve the rustic cabin and outdoor, mountain lifestyle.
